FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what type of system I have?
If there's a salt tank, it's safe to say it's a softener. A licensed water treatment specialist may know what most other equipment is just by looking at it, & may require some invasive disassembly to know for sure. Some water technologies are used by one WTS & not another; so sometimes only the person or company who installed it will know exactly what the equipment is & what it's supposed to do, or at least what they intended for it to do.
How do I know what’s in my water?
A thorough water analysis will provide that information.
We can do a field test for you or send a sample to a laboratory for laboratory results for a fee.
What water treatment product should I purchase?
A thorough water analysis will tell us what should be removed from the water to make it the purest as possible. Your budget & requirements of water quality will determine the rest.
What may be the cause of my water tasting bad?
Many minerals(such as heavy metals, salts, & calcium) & chemicals used in the water treatment process (such as chlorine, & chloramines) harm the taste of drinking water.
What is a reverse osmosis system?
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process (not a filter) that uses a partially permeable membrane to separate ions, unwanted molecules and larger particles from drinking water.
What is Water Filtration?
Filtration is the removal of sediments by trapping them inside a cartridge or a bed of filtration media.
What do I do if I want to purify ONLY my drinking water?
Use an undersink reverse osmosis unit, or any filtration with its own separate faucet.
How do I determine my FLOW RATE?
Most faucets have a flow restrictor inside the aerator & have a GPM laser etched into the side of the aerator. Shower heads are the same. As for appliances - refer to the manufacturer or the literature provided with the equipment.
Who makes your equipment?
We mostly use Norwesco poly tanks, Clack & Pentair water vessels & equipment for water treatment. We sell, repair & install pumps by Franklin Electric, & AY McDonald, & Grundfos.
Are you a licensed plumber?
No, I am not a plumber. I'm a Water Treatment Specialist licensed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, & trained by the Texas Water Quality Association. Plumbing is a part of my job, but I'm not licensed to install or repair the plumbing inside the walls of a home nor do I want to. However, a time may come when I employ a licensed plumber.
Does water treatment equipment require any service once it’s installed?
Yes, all water equipment requires some level of service, repair, & eventual replacement at some point in its life. Self cleaning filters generally need repairs every 3-5 years, while basic filtration requires periodic cartridge replacement. Sometimes chemicals (mostly chlorine) are involved & require replenishment periodically.
Is Well water safe to drink?
No water can be called biologically safe to drink or even bathe with without some sort of thorough disinfection. We know people do it all the time, but waterborne diseases are no joke. Its better to be safe than sorry.
Why does my water smell like rotten eggs?
The most common odor problem in water comes from Hydrogen Sulfide gas. The gas can be oxidized by chlorination.
Is chlorinated water safe to drink?
A properly maintained system & monitored chlorine residual is safe for human consumption. A high residual if consumed for a long enough period of time can have diuretic affects. Chlorine can be removed for taste & health concerns(most commonly at the kitchen sink).
